What's the deal with stainless vs. steel for rotors? EBC says 20% more stopping power over stainless, but galfers are stainless and they obviously don't suck. Is that marketing hoopla or is there some truth to it? I wouldn't want to lose the 20% increase in braking I just added with 320mm rotors and 4 piston calipers by using the wrong stuff.
Carbon Steel can have a courser more open grain pattern which will improve friction but will rust.... Stainless Steel will not rust but has a slightly more slick closed grain pattern has
slightly lower friction. To which EBC uses Stainless Steel rotors and Galfer is known for their "Iron" rotors that when new have such sharp edges that they can and will cut you; these edges are hard on a pad but they do add a lot to the friction and thus grab much tighter.
