Guys, I have a close personal friend who is opening a brewpub in Detroit. I would love to visit but I'll leave it up to you to report back. This is a close personal friend that I work with.

Falling Down Beer Company will construct a 10 BBL brewing system, capable of producing 930 gallons of beer weekly with plans to double capacity within one year. Plans also include the hiring of 10-15 new employees in 2012.

Also today FDBC has announced the availability of merchandise, brewery club memberships and tickets to a private grand opening celebration. The “Build a Brewery” store is located on the FDBC Facebook page. The store will only be available for the month of May and is intended to grow interest and capital for the brewery.

The brewery is currently scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2012

It's in Warren, not Detroit. A few cities removed from the blight ...

No, not a few cities, it's right next door,as Warren is the northern neighbor to Detroit & the brewpub is 2 miles north of the city limits, which is at 8 Mile rd....

True, but that's not what I meant.

Start in downtown Detroit and go north (75 then Dequindre Rd, pretty much a straight line from downtown to the brew pub, which is near Dequindre & 10 Mile).

You'll pass through Hamtramck, Highland Park, and Hazel Park before you get to Warren.

While Detroit proper sneaks back in east of there, my point wasn't necessarily a geography lesson - it was that Warren != to what MOST of Detroit is, referring to areas such as Brightmoor, (western) Detroit, Cass Ave., etc.

Detroit is a sh1t hole that needs to be bulldozed into the Detroit River. THAT is the only thing that will revive this city. Or perhaps a good, old-fashioned Chicago-style blaze ...

Of course I got that way living w/in 15 minutes of downtown, listening to all the depressing reports on the evening news since I can remember.

I was on a business trip in Dallas and the guy that's opening this bar was there with me. He had brought down 12 20oz bottles from home for us to sample. He opened up an IPA, a oatmeal stout and a Rye. This beer was awesome. You guys in Detroit are going to be spoiled. They just ordered the tanks, and it is slated to open in October.

Hay careful with what you say about Detroit. It could happen to a town near you too.
By the way a new micro brew just opened in Copper Harbor. It open the week before
Labor Day. It's right across from the store so no direction are necessary. It's called
Brickside Brew. They had 4 taps on hand and are adding 4 more.
I grew up (IN) Detroit and never minded leaving but still respect what it taught me.

So well as you can see 2012 was a bit too optomistic, but here we are.
