The front brake pads are pretty much gone at 13K miles. Is this average?

I don't think so, I'm at 17,500 and mine still look good. That reminds me, I should go look at them.  :D

I have about 14.5k on my current set.  Probably will need new ones around 16k.  Rear brake pads last a long time for me - probably 40-45k for the set.

Depends on how hard and how much you use the front brakes.  I'm on my 3rd set of fronts at 34K.
Look at both rotors.  Mine wears the left side rotor pads out first.

I got about 24,000 miles on mine.  I agree that the pad on one side of each set was much worse than the other side.  I admit I've never been hard on brakes on cars or motorcycles.  This is actually the least miles I've ever gotten on pads.

Third set at 32,xxx.  The stock ones only lasted about 8k, then a set of Galfer blacks that didn't last over 10k, and currently EBCs.  On my '08 ABS, the left pad wears almost twice as fast as the right so I have to rotate the pads when I change tires, which last about 3-4k.

I changed out the stock front and rear pads at 20K for EBC.  I still had quite a bit of pad material on the stock set.  Still have the stock rotors with no issues at 21K.  On my second set of Pirellis...Stratas and now Angels.

My stock set looked like they were getting a little low while in the caliper.  But when I removed them there was still quite a bit of material left.  Since I had the new set right there I just changed them so I'd be done with it.  No issues with the stockers except they were a little noisy when new.  Zero issues for the EBCs....nice stopping and quiet operation.

UPDATE.
So...I finally got some time to change the pads. Right side, front, as viewed from the seat, the pads are better than 80% worn, left side about 50%. Checked the rear while I was at it, 25% worn.
I'm wondering if the linked brakes have something to do with the uneven wear at the front..  ???

What color is your bike?  This is key to brake wear.  ;)

Does engaging the rear activate thge right front only?

It would appear to be so.

Only 25% down on the rear so its not dragging and pulling on the rt front. If the front pads were wearing evenly you would be at 65%. Is it possible to have unequal pressure at the calipers? The line falls from the master to the rt and splits at a double banjo to extend to the left. A blockage at the fittings? Maybe an air bubble in the left line?

What's involved in changing the pads on this bike. What do a pair for the front run? I replaced the front pads on my GT and that front set ran me $106.00

Very easy, it can be done within 30 minutes (F&R), you don't even have to remove the calipers on the front (but pulling them to make sure they get clean is worth the extra time. I bought a complete F&R set of EBC HH pads and IIRC they were about $130.

Edit: yep $132 from Murph

I read a post where someone compared changing brake pads on two different manufacturers bikes and referred to his experience on the Connie as very difficult and time consuming. The cost sounds reasonable.

Thanks!

Changing just the pads on this bike is a 'nothing' job.  I don't think it's hard to do at all.
