You jump on the front forks to center/seat the axle bearing surfaces in the fork legs evenly onto the axle proper.
No other reasons.
The axle pinch bolts and the axle nut must be loose enough to attain this.
Doesn't matter how loose,loose enough to work.
SOP on any bike for me. It ain't science,just a procedure.

Bleed the calipers,farthest(clutch side)side first.

I enjoy the translations in the manual myself....

I usually torque the axle nut, then make sure ALL the pinch bolts are loose and bounce the front end a few times to seat the axle then torque pinch bolts and call it done...  works for me :)

I'm just back from the shed where I went to put into place some of the above advice. I checked the brake lever again and it seems that the elves have been busy during the night because it is just perfect!

Again, thanks to all who replied for allowing me to access your experience; next time I'll know exactly what to do.
