Oil analysis

In the above thread it's been suggested by Fred Harmon to see if we can get a bunch of c14 folks to get an oil analysis done and compile the results. I think this is good research. I know we have some high mileage bikes here and we can get a wide range of setups. The kit is sent free. There is a $25 fee for the analysis. I'm in with my '08.

I already have my bottle filled with oil from my last change, I just walk past it every day and can't remember to write a $25 check and drop it in the mail.  I'm in.

Why?  These engines are practically bulletproof and most people change their oil well within the 5k mile range or sell the bikes with very little mileage on them.  Not looking to  :stirpot: but I would like to understand the reasonings behind it.

My book says every 7,500?  Did they use to say 5,000? Not that I would consider going that long just curious. :o

This test will prove we change our oil WAY to early.

If you test twice using the same bike, same mileage and two oils, it will also prove the difference between expensive and cheap is nil (I sent in Rotella T synth and Mobil 1 after 6000 miles on each).

Some of us on a track bike forum completed such testing in the past using that very lab

Not paranoid, just curious.........[but that guy is staring at me kinda weird].

I have always changed oil before it was needed in every vehicle I have owned, so this is my way of trying to be more responsible to conserve resources.

I went a little (about 2,000 miles) longer than normal on my last oil change since I rode 5,000 miles last month and ran the same Rotella 15-40 the whole time, so I was curious to see if I could run that far or possibly even farther for future oil changes.  $25 for the test is roughly the cost of one oil change, so if I can safely get 5,000-7,000 miles out of my oil I will do it and that $25 just saved me $125 or so in the first year (assuming a 30,000 mile year of riding).

Why?  Well, read the first link in the first post.  :loco:

A few new bikes may be having problems with gas getting into the oil, including some new ones being used in service duty.

It's more of a survey to see if there are degrees of this happening to many, or just a few who have it happening really badly.

Participation is optional, but for those that are curious, the information is provided.  For the rest of you, just go ride!

It figures that when somebody wants to promote the use of actual facts and research about oil used specifically in our bikes that nobody wants to be a part of it. Lol

That's a broad swath Gearhead.  Some will go for it some won't.  It's the way it is.  I'd rather spend my money on something else.  We've seen through the years here that the engines are the least of our worries.  You want to do a study of if the brake recall shield really shields, or if the rear plastic sandwich carrier still disintegrates, or why the side cases still fly off at the handle, and the real reason the front rotors warp, then I'm in.  Other than that, not so much.
