Saddlebag latches?
« on: September 02, 2011, 07:32:53 AM »
Wasn't there a topic on the old board about Kawasaki replacing the latches on the saddlebags? How do you know if you have a good one or one of the ones that was prone to breaking?

I am bringing the bike in tomorrow morning for a new rear tire and figured I could ask about it if I got the information ahead of time from here.

The 08/09 bikes had a latch recall done.  If your bike is a 10 onward you don't need to worry about it other than they occasionally fly off on bumps like a depth charge.  Kawasaki won't acknowledge that problem, though.

Mine is a 2009.  Are there any identifying marks on the new ones or any other way to tell if they are the new ones or not?

If you bought it used and don't know if recall work has been done, your dealer can run the VIN. Or used to be kawi web site you could pop the vin # in, or i may be thinking of honda lol

+1

Its a Kawasaki, no secret we take measures to insure your bags don't fly off  ;D

There's a list of other gear that protects the bike too, over a grand or so worth but its outside the scope of this thread.

I already have those, but figured I should make sure the latch is strong as well.
