So that's what it feels like...
I hit the rev limiter yesterday while playing a bit. No sir, I did not like it one bit. For a split second I didn't know what was going on and I had an 'oh sh1t' moment.
What gear?
Really? You just found it?
I hit mine in first gear day one, on the ride home from the dealer. Had to do it again right after that just so I could look at the speedometer.
I was in 3rd.
Heading out of town, stopped at the last light before the wide open road starts. The road turns from 4 lanes to 2 right after this light and it's a good place for a lil drag strip action from time to time. I was stopped in the right most lane all by myself when two pirates roll up on their HDs. They both give me the stink eye and start reving their bikes. There's not a car in sight so I nod and get ready. I wasn't 100% sure they were gonna go so they got a little jump on me. I nailed it and within a second or two I was beside them then I banged second and was gone. I hit third and checked the mirrors, watching as the pirates got smaller and smaller. All of a sudden it was like someone had hit my kill switch, WTF? Ah, the rev limiter, hello there. *

You should have let the pirates go on down the road. When you dust them off you risk a ticket and now you potentially have a poser with all of 8200 miles of riding proficiency far behind you.
At what RPM does the limiter kick in? (and how fast were you going in 3rd when it hit? )
Fixed it for you.
I know that I should have let them go, I know better than this but sometimes I just can't help myself.

But then again, I'm not sure if a rev limiter is an option I think a good majority of the riders out there risk a ticket most times we ride, maybe not as thrilling as described, but breaking the law is breaking the law. Besides, I'd rather have trouble chasing me vs chasing trouble Another besides, why ride in the oil slick when you can ride in front of it?

Wouldn't it be bad to have the engine revving that high? (Valve float?)

Thus the rev limiter...Captain Obvious strikes again! QCTM
