So, here's an open offer.  If anyone is displaced by Irene, I have a coupla rooms empty, no strings attached, families, pets, doesnt matter.  The distance may be great, but airplanes have a way of shortening the distance.  Kids are gone, so the proverbial nest is empty, stay as long as you need.

I'm in Washington State, and to sweeten the pot, I have 2 spare bikes, a KLR and a YZ450F, so you wont thirst for a ride.

Good luck to all,

Chet

That's a generous offer!

I live about 35 miles from Atlantic City, and I'm definitely concerned. If the forecast proves to be accurate, this will be the worst storm I'll experience thus far in my life. I was just thinking a couple hours ago that I don't have any friends/family in other parts of the country if I needed a place to go.

Two Sundays ago, I went to my buddy's house a few miles away for a haircut (his girlfriend has a home salon). It was raining hard when I got there, and had been most of the day. After 20 minutes in the barber's chair, I looked out the window and saw my Toyota Sequoia ready to get flooded out (see attached pic). That turned out to be 6 inches of rain. They are forecasting up to ten inches of rain in ten hours this Sunday. Not good at all. Luckily, I live on higher ground then he does.

For those that may be wondering, my Yoda is fine, I actually got in, started her up and drove her out of there because I was afraid the water might actually rise more.

I'm in the COG directory, for those who dont have one drop me a PM.  For those with kids, we have plenty to help keep them occupied.  Heck, we even have a flush toilet 8)

From what I've heard, it rains so much in WA state that you won't know if you left the hurricane behind.

Yah, but it's a dry rain. ;D ;D

And we seldom get that kind of wind.

Well, I see it's down to a Cat 1, with wind speed down to 85mph.  Whole lot of hype...

In looking at the power outages on the Dominion Power web site, they are much more numerous southeast of us.  However, the storm really hasn't gotten to us yet.

Update:  Major power outages in the Tidewater area at this time.

Not to the people in the VA Beach, Norfolk, and Tidewater areas...

The Category only indicates the sustained wind speed. The forward speed, rainfall, wind field size, storm surge, etc are not taken into account. This is a bad storm.

319,000 plus are without power in the Tidewater area according to Dominion Power.  In looking at their outage maps, it's getting worse coming up the Northern Neck area.  More outages are springing up.  Richmond is being hit pretty hard as well.  145,00 out of power there.  I guess so much for the hype....

Update:  Richmond has 372,000 customers without power out of a total of 491,200 Dominion Power customers.  This is more than the Tidewater area where the storm is the strongest.
