Need to choose a Givi top case
« on: July 19, 2016, 12:02:42 AM »
Hey everyone,
I'm going to pick up my brand spanking new 2016 Connie next week.  This is going to be my first Concours as I'm going away from cruisers - coming off a M109r and wanted to go to more of a touring bike and not lose any performance.  Decided the Concours 14 was the perfect choice.

So now I'm looking to get it all road ready and throw some accessories on it.  I have my extra tall Cee Bailey windshield (I'm 6'5" so I figured I could use the extra protection) and side case liners on order.  And my Givi monokey mounting plate is on it's way, so now I have to choose which case to mount to it.  I want volume for the longer hauls so here are my choices:

1) 52L Monokey Trekker Case

OR

2) 58L Monokey Outback Case

Does anyone have any experience with these cases?  Would you recommend one over the other?  What does everyone say?

Thanks for responding!

I have this on my 2015 C14. I love it. No issues and I run with that 99% of the time. No side bags. When I need more storage on a trip or whatever I'll throw the side bags on.

From a purely aesthetic point of view the cases you're looking at are more for a Versys or some other dual purpose bike. Not on a C14. You can get something like this with almost just as much volume but in a much nice looking package.

Aside from looks the Givi cases are good. I've had no issues with mine and it's going on 3 years old. I had it on my 2012 and now have it on my 2015.

That is a good looking option!  If you wanted to remove it, how difficult is it to disconnect the wiring for the light on the case?

I know that the ones I'm looking at are more suited to adventure bikes, I essentially was interested in them for their ruggedness.  Do you find that yours is fairly strong?

VERY easy. The case itself is a twist of the key and a push of one button. Under 20 seconds. The light kit is from ADMore lighting. The Givi light kit sucks. Don't waste your money on it.  That is a twist lock connector. Again VERY easy. The strength is fine. I've had it over loaded and another bag on the top rack coming back from Tennessee to NY and other shorter trips.

+1 to the V56. I just got it for mine and went on a 3500 miles, 2 weeks tour. I did by the Givi light kit and I like it very much, but I didn't use the supplied connectors. Instead, I just used a waterproof connector out the bottom of the case. There's only one thing that I'd like to change, and it's the silver trim. I'd like it black, like the V47 that is being sold with the Versys 1000 with the touring package, which also says Kawasaki on the side. Very neat.
A sticker inside tells me not to exceed 75mph with it, but I took it to 100, no problems.
I got it rather cheap from a vendor in Italy (I live in Germany) for €225 (USD250), shipment included. List price of the case here in Germany is comparable to the US: €320 (USD350).

Build bridges, not walls.

Education is important. Riding my bike is importanter.
