Ticking\clicking sound when accelerating.
« on: June 20, 2016, 04:09:42 AM »
Hi, its me again.
And i have a problem (possibly just in my imagination) with my bike.
I have a 2009 concours with 40k miles on it.
The problem is, when i accelerate from 2300-2800 rpm with approx. 25% throttle in 3rd gear i get a clicking/ticking sound.
When i accelerate with more or less throttle, in other gears, etc. the clicking does not show up.
The clicking sounds most like valve clearance off bounds, but louder. I dont have any other weird things about the bike.
Should I just forget about it? Or is it a sign of malfunction?

Maybe header nuts are loose and you don't notice it all the time.

Header nuts are nuts that hold exhaust manifold with the engine?
Sorry for newbie question.

Yes, and if they have never been touched, they are loose.

I'm in total agreement with the above answers...mine did it too, strangely in 3rd gear as well, and my hearing is somewhat shot btw...lol. Was the exhaust header nuts...do yourself a favor and replace the OEM nuts with those copper lock nuts while you are in there. the originals work lose with time again...and it is a PITA job to do more than once! Holding thumbs it's as we all think...an easy cheap fix, the way we prefer it!  ;D
