additional lights under the mirrors: what mount?

could somebody provide pics and description of how they mounted additional lights from the mirrors? I assume it means using the 3 little (M5?) screws holding the mirror to the bracket, right? And what about the plastic part that covers the bracket?
After my accident some months ago I replaced the broken bracket (which is not sold separately, so I got it off a mirror from eBay in not-so-good shape, but the bracket was pristine; unlike mine, were the bracket was gone but the mirror was only slightly scratched). Yesterday I was bored so I took that ugly mirror and performed some surgery on it, and among other things I learnt how to take off the painted cover without braking any of the 4 tabs    I knew that PhD was going to pay off one day

I haven't mounted any under the mirrors, but in planning ahead to do so I looked at those PCA adapters an decided that they only served aesthetics so that the lights aren't mounted at an angle. I think that 1 extra long stainless screw (or threaded rod with nuts) with an aluminum tube spacer would do the job. The lights would still be adjustable in two axes (yes I checked, axes is the plural of axis but it still doesn't look right), just angled a bit to match the angle under the mirror mount, but you'd still be able to aim the light where you wanted it.

I've posted this a few other places, but here is the short version

I made brackets to mount on the body that place the lights in a similar position as under the mirrors.  Cost was almost nothing as I had the metal in a scrap pile, and just rattle can painted in the garage.
