What Cory said, and only the PC V; the PC III did not seem to be a problem.
Also, quite a few people have had trouble with the PC but due to poor grounding- the original instructions that came with the PC had the ground going to the radiator reservior bottle, which was plastic and basically a bad idea. But with a good (metal) ground, that does not seem to be a problem either.
I use my C-14 on timed, long distance runs and have been using a PC III since late '07 with good results. If I thought for one second it would be a source of trouble, I would simply remove it.

Yeah, the PCIII's are rock solid....I've seen them full of road grime and muck, with cracked housings even, and still working fine...LOL. I removed one and cleaned it up on a 2003 Hon-Duh 600RR track bike last fall, and even after having sat outside for a year, the PCIII still worked like new...LOL. It was dirty, but it worked.
And just to add to what Brian said about the improper ground....many of the so-called problems with these devices was indeed improper installations. A lot of times, the guys that install them are not careful with where they run the wires...and they get pinched, or chafed, or cracked, etc and suddenly the device isn't working properly....and in the bin it goes. All the while, there was really nothing wrong with the unit itself. I've removed two 'problematic' PCIII's from old Kawasaki's and found damaged wires due to a less than careful install. Sometimes you have to follow each and every wire an 1/8" at a time to find the bad spot.
Anyway...having said all of that, there were still some issues with the earlier PC5's. Maybe within the first year. Not sure if it was a hardware or software issue or what, but they did seem to have problems. Whatever it was, they did apparently cure it, because I've not heard a word about them now in quite a few years.
I'd buy a new PC5 from Fuelmoto with 100% confidence, and not have the lightest worry in putting a million miles on one.
