His book "When Hell Was Is Session" detailing his stay and torture at the notorious Hanoi Hilton as a POW during the Vietnam War was riveting to me as a 12 year old. The movie was the first time I read a book then watched the movie, and it really made an impact on me, especially after watching the POW's come home in 1973. A very brave man and the type we may never see again.
