Concours AUX/ Driving lights Picture request
« on: March 16, 2014, 12:12:39 PM »
I want to mount some driving lights under my mirrors. Looking for a pictures of what others have done. I am interested in seeing what you used, how you like it, and how you went about mounting them along with the switches.

Last summer I was looking into the same thing, but I don't care for the ones hanging off the mirrors.  My wife pointed out they looked like earrings hanging there.  I tried a few ideas.

First was this.

It would work, but would have made a large shadow area with the light mounted that far back.

2nd attempt was

I used the factory body screws to hold the bracket in place.  This is what I will be installing this spring, but with a improved bracket painted to match.

Here's what I came up with.

Lights are 55w, comes with wiring kit and lighted switch... $20 Walmart.
Mounted on TRex crash bars.

Here's how well they work at night:

I want to install the mondomoto lights under the mirrors. OK, figured out how to take the mirror assembly off and it looks like it's held on by three bolts. There's a metal base that would block you from getting the nut in there. Does that come off to allow easier access? I'm guessing you can remove that once you have the whole assembly off.

After you remove the mirror from the bike  you have to separate the upper part from the base removing those 3 screws  at the bottom, then you can take the metal base out of the plastic, then you can drill  in the middle of those 3 holes  with a drill bit about 4 mm or the required for tap threads for  a 6 mm bolt , after that you can make a hole on the bottom of the plastic cover to be able to run the wires inside , then you can put everything back  together and get a piece of pipe about 1/2 " diameter or less about 15 mm long to use it as spacer between the lamp and the mirror and use a 6mm  bolt 20 mm long to secure the lamp to the mirror base

Thanks gildaguz, should have done it your way.

They are installed under the mirrors. woohoo!

There are three screws holding the metal bracket in there, two are under the rubber.

I drilled another hole to mount the lights closer to the fairing so I wouldn't have to cut off one of the three circular things sticking down. I had to cut off the longest anyway to get it past the nut... Didn't realize it until after I drilled. Not a big deal, they still look good. If I had to do it again I would use the existing hole.
