I will tell you my deal last August. I did trade in a 09 red with 59k miles on a new 13 blue. I kept every single farkle as the dealer did not want to pay one penny for those. Bottom line was $7500 + TTL, basically $500 than my offer.

So, based on some eBay prices, you were given at least $4,000 for yours ... more if the price on the 2013 was higher than $11,500.

It is sad that Japanese bikes are just not worth buying new unless you plan on keeping them until they are worn out.  When you actually ride the bike you have to compete with the low mileage garage queens that are being given away.  I only bought new because I knew these bikes were keepers.  I have one bought used bike left in my stable and thinking about replacing it with a Thruxton.

Contrary to what most people think, all bikes lose value. While i agree the japenese lose a larger percentage early on, the actual $ loss is comparable. I see lots of bikes one or two yrs old for sale by guys who have "no time to ride". They all take a bath, even the potato potato crowd.

1. Ebay bike listings do not cover "trade-ins".
2. Time and harassment of selling used bikes are not my forte'. Also I do not sell my bikes and cars to friends.
3. I always trade in after doing some online searching. I do not ride out state to get the ideal trade in.
4. in that time, the best prices for the MY 13 were 13k a few out of state dealers and 13.5k the most common best price.
5. It needed at least a rear tire and was overdone for valves' checking among a few other wear and tear issues proper of a bike with 59k miles.
6. I did not even shop around as the given price was within $500 of my offer. Even so, I did wait one day to see if the dealer would cave in. He did not... I did.
7. I bought locally. I am happy with the deal... what it counts!
8. I just wanted to share my case here in this forum.

You should share your wisdom here on this forum for everyone to get those bottom prices and trade ins on the Ebay.

Your line above reads as though you're irritated by my post, so in case that's true I'll clarify:

The blue 2013 in the eBay link I posted sold for $11,500. Since you paid your dealer $7,500 cash, that would mean you received $4,000 for your trade-in ($11,500 - $7,500 = $4,000)

Now, if your particular dealer would've only come down to say $13,500 on a new blue 2013, then you got $6,000 for your trade-in ($13,500 - $7,500 = $6,000). <- This scenario is why I wrote, "... you were given at least $4,000 for yours ..."

I believe this is correct anyway.

Let me know if my thinking is off. It certainly could be.  ???
