Craigs list finds
« on: December 09, 2013, 09:30:55 PM »
So, about 6 month ago my microwave started going on the fritz and then the handle broke.  I have always wanted one with the convection oven built in, so I started looking.  While in Home Depot I came across one-for $250 OTD, done.  Installed, the problem is it is stainless steel, the rest of the appliances are that off white color.  WHO CARES, RIGHT?  DUH, SHE DOES.  She finds a nice looking fridge for $450 on CL, I look at it, it is new and I buy it, just behind the fridge is a nice STAINLESS oven.  Yes, she wants that as well.  $400 brand new...  Last bit is a new STAINLESS dishwasher.  That microwave is starting to get really expensive :o :o :o  So far I have $1100 invested in new kitchen appliances, not too shabby if I do say so myself..  Son needed a better fridge and oven, so maybe there was some collusion going on??
Thank goodness my wife isn't into shoes :-X

Good appliances cannot be underestimated.  In the last couple of years I had to replace my 30-year-old Kenmore fridge, washer, and dryer.  I hope you like the stainless surfaces, but I have to say I know two couples who have them and say they actually take more effort to keep looking nice, they finger-print easy, etc.  I do like the look, though.  Luckily today's stuff won't last 30 years, so you'll probably be replacing them before you die. :D

I though all women were into shoes.  Mine is.

Well, duh! Who's fault is that? You should have known better and bought the microwave in off white.    ;)

Sorry to break the news but stainless is on the way out like avacado and coppertone. The new color is Ice White.
Don't tell my 70s Magic Chef rangetop stove or Caloric oven and Frigidaire side by side that has the GM logo on it, all in coppertone
GM sold Frigidaire in 79..

Yup, also shows every single drop of water that gets on it. I just love when the kids get ice & water from the dispenser on the fridge door!!  :banghead:

Harvest gold...blech! My kitchen used to be painted that color. Then it was paneled. Now it's Kilz...

I moved into my parents '71 built house last year after my dad passed away.  This house has all of the colors going on.  I just recently took the master bath down to studs and rebuilt it.  The sink, toilet, and 1" square tiled shower was POWDER BLUE original.  The main hall bath I stripped the '80s wallpaper and then painted it Country white and put a new vanity with modern faucet until I can pull the tub and tile, toilet, and floor to get rid of the HARVEST GOLD color.

The only thing left of the kitchen is the AVACADO GREEN stove.  It works a looks great.  I think I will send the green surfaces out and have them coated black until we can afford to get rid of the green-flecked '80s counter tops.

Ironically, the downstairs bath was down in white when the house was built.  Still looks great and functions.  Maybe its time to replace the faucet (some corrosion pitting).  I've reseated the valves quite a few times.

By the way, if you have the old colored porclain fixtures, sell them, there seems to be a pretty good craigslist market for them.

Our house was built in the mid 70's and when we bought it in '86 it SILL had the original shag carpet and harvest gold appliances. Each room had a different color shag carpet and they were all hideous. The worst was in the living room, purple shag.

I ripped all that crap out before we even moved in.
