Cap on front bevel drive
« on: October 20, 2013, 01:34:30 PM »
Hi,

Does anyone know how the black plastic cap is removed on the front bevel drive? My bevel is suffering from corrosion and needs a respray but the manual asks you to use a special Kawasaki part to remove the cap.

Is it pushed on or threaded? Is there an easy way of removing it undamaged without the tool?

Thanks in advance.

Can you post a pic? I'm not sure which cap you're referring to.  ???

- there is ALOT OF OIL behind that round black plastic cap. Its not meant to be removed and needs no "oiling" as its part of the oil bath for the gearbox/front bevel drive.

I thought the front bevel gear was being oiled from the engine/transmission oil. It gets new oil when you change the engine oil. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) So I'm curious how you know your front bevel is "suffering from corrosion" if you can't get the cap off to see it?

My manual just says pry it off with a tool...

'Pry off the gear case cap [A] with a tool.'

Doesn't say anything about the tool being 'special'.

The only special tools mentioned in the section 'Front Gear Case Disassembly' are:

Drive Gear Holder and Bearing Driver Set....

Based on what I see in my manual, there aren't any threads on it.

Many thanks.

Hopefully it will still be usable after prying!

Sigh...

A link to the other thread would have been too subtle.

I get it. It's not the bevel gear it self that is corroded but the housing. East coast? Lots of salt?

Possibly washing it with brake fluid? :_shudder_Emoticon
