It looks like speed isn't the problem.

Seems like STOPPING is the problem. :P

The Prius has some of the strongest brakes I've ever seen.  Those brakes coupled with the generator braking really do a good job of stopping the vehicle.  Stopping is not an issue, even with the ones that supposedly got the accelerator pedal jammed by the carpet.  One can hit the Power button and cut it off and/or flick it into neutral.  When I traded my 05 in, the original brakes were still on and the car had 288k on it.  It's a good vehicle.

I was cruising down I-985 not long ago in my F250 about 80 mph and a Prius passed me like I was stopped. He was going at least 95. I have to wonder though, how well they do in a high speed stop. Don't they have fairly narrow, high pressure tires and weigh fairly heavy?

No and no.  My Prius v has 16 inch tires and I wouldn't consider them narrow.  Have you ever seen a Prius before?  The fronts have 35 and the rear has 33 lbs so no high pressure.  We don't run MC tires on a car.

Well, gee, didn't I just say that I saw one go by at high speed? ;)  From where I was sitting and have seen them around town, those tires look narrow and little compared to the ones on my truck.

Yes you did, but that was at high speed and not standing still.  I'm sure it was a blur as it went by you so you couldn't really get a good look.  And yes again, compared to a truck tire it would be narrow wouldn't it? ;)    And yours would be narrow compared to this...
