Gentlemen, this is a motorcycle forum, NOT a University course.

Since when has that stopped anyone from veering off track?  Tis the nature of the beast.

Funny thing though about language- I (an American) tend to view English as your (UK) language so any differences are our deviations from the original. But in reality, both versions of the language have been in continuous development right along

Its just that American English fixes British English by getting rid of all those unnecessary extra vowels and by actually using the letter "z"  :)

:)  No, in British style, it would be an "sx14".

That, I can visualise... I mean visualize.

The English (affectionately known as 'Limeys') call the letter 'Z' zed. It really sounds odd the first several thousand times I heard it. Well actually it still sounds odd to me but there ya' have it.

So I have to assume they would verbally call that bike a Zed X 14. ??

It also makes me wonder how they use the two- word specification for letters... you know, A is alpha, B is beta and Z is zebra. What do they call it, zedbra?

Have you ever watched a Limey eat? They hold the utensils all wrong and use the wrong device to pick up the food (often the knife), and often use a fork upside down. Worse than watching a left handed person write I tells ya'.

"I eat my peas with honey, I've done it all my life.
It makes them taste kinda' funny but it holds them on the knife."

Let us know if we wander off topic Jim. I love this forum!

That's......awkward.
Why?
USA - Zee-Eks-14
UK - Zed-Eks-14

Not much difference to my mind, although it is called the ZZR1400 over here.
The double Z is awkward but it only ever occurs with Kawasaki motorcycles and a a certain collection of Texan Beards.

As for the rampant mutilations of the English language, you are not the only ones.
The Canucks, Aussies, Indians, South Africans, Jamaicans, Irish, and a great many others also mutilate and bastardise our language,.....
... but we can take it, we can handle it, because we have our stiff upper lip and a cup of tea.  :rotflmao:

Oh Bryn,... it's Zulu by the way.  ;D

Cajun music would be zedeco.

The midget would be yelling 'zed plane Boss, zed plane!'

Now that is a really interesting point Conrad- what DO they call a Zebra, a striped horse? Inquiring minds want to know....? The 'boot' and 'bonnet' was bad enough but the Zebra thing is a real quandary.
