I've always loved the clean lines and tall tails of the older B-52s....although, the tall tail proved over time to not be the wisest of choices.

B-52's are just bad-a$$ aircraft.

Back in '94 flying at 3k feet through DFW class B, ATC called us and stated an Air Force Heavy at 1 o'clock passing to 11 o'clock' two miles. He was closer and when he was at our 12 o'clock he rocked his wings left and right. We were in Chinook helicopter.

That stuff is too cool!

The B52 is simply the finest aircraft the US government ever purchased/owned.  Nothing is close particularly in service life.

KC-135?  They came out around the same time and are still flying...  B-52 about 1955 and KC-135 about 1957...

Have you ever put yourself where the boom operator works?  I have.  On a stationary bird, though, as a 10 year old, on the largest AF base in the country at the time.....99th Bomb Wing, Westover.  Most exciting thing I ever did.  Dad was next to me as well.

The B-52's couldn't fly very far without tankers... ;)   Although, I do agree, you don't hear much about tankers in the news, only the business end of the stick......the BUFFs.

B-57 beats the B-52 by about a year.  Two are still flying for NASA...  They just retired them (Canberra) in Australia.

B-52 first flight April 1952, entered service Feb 55.
Scary the last one was built in 1962!
