Canada Insurance rates
« on: February 19, 2013, 10:13:27 AM »
In Saskatchewan, Canada we have just been notified by our State Insurance Company (SGI), that they intend to increase insurance rates dramatically for bikes, especially Sport bikes. My 2010 Concours is luckily classed a Touring Bike, the rate will go from $1,669 to $2,513 per Year a 50% increase. if I had the Ninja 1400 it would go from $2,263 - $5,446 (240%). this is for insurance on the bike and (I think) $250,000 liability insurance.

just wonderimg how this compares to other Canadian Owners. Don't forget I can only drive April (at the Earliest) to October due to the weather.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but: what exactly are you insuring? please tell me in plain terms, as my English is not that good on insurance terms.
I live in Germany and pay about 258 EUR (350 CAD) for the compulsory insurance (damage to others in the event of an accident) and in case the bike is stolen. I drive 9 months a year, March to November.

Build bridges, not walls.

Education is important. Riding my bike is importanter.

In Alberta:

$1,000,000 Liability (Compulsary)
Collision (damage to own vehicle-drop etc.)
Accident Benefits
Fire and theft
Family protection (rider)
Replacement

=$447
Would be much higher for a sport bike, younger rider.
I always thought SGI was a good insurer.  Proven wrong!  Seems they got tired of insuring squids.

I live in Germany and pay about 258 EUR (360 CAD) for the compulsory insurance (damage to others in the event of an accident) and in case the bike is stolen. I drive 9 months a year, March to November.

The insurance is comprehensive coverage with a $750 deductable. Covers damage to my bike in collision, fire, theft etc. There is a $250,000 liability limit for damage to people or other property and vehicles.

They claim they are loosing money at the current rates, and this brings it inline with our neighbours Manitoba and Alberta. Say what. I just got a response from Alberta. The rate there is $447 per year as opposed to our $2,513. interesting

Thanks for the info. One of the justifications for the increase was bringing it inline with Manitoba / Alberta. I wonder where they are getting their info.

I think might be socialism according to post 1. I bought a tank of fuel for my C14 in Canada and about had a stroke, state taxes made a litre cost about as much as we pay for a gallon.
