Milwaukee County Sheriff gets it.

A sheriff who released a radio ad urging Milwaukee-area residents to learn to handle firearms so they can defend themselves while waiting for police said Friday that law enforcement cutbacks have changed the way police can respond to crime.

In the 30-second commercial, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. says personal safety is no longer a spectator sport.

"I need you in the game," he says.

"With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option," he adds. "You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. ... Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there."

I really doubt that he gets it. I believe that he is trying to apply pressure, indirectly through voters,
to politicians to get more money to rehire his laid off and furloughed officers. With the anti-gun fever
re-emerging, he's counting on alarmed voter/citizens to start calling politicians, and not on them running
out to enroll in gun safety courses and purchasing fire arms.

I could be wrong, it happens more than I like it to.  :-\

I saw an interview with him on this issue and it seemed to me like he meant what he said.

Ding, Ding, Ding, Fartmarty is the winner in this phase! When staffing is increased, I'd sure like to see if this guy changes his toon, I think we all know the answer. Many won't see it as its a bit of a pro gun message and most likely he'll be asked to be quiet or lose his job.
