Kawasaki Warranty Question
« on: November 11, 2012, 06:53:10 PM »
Yesterday I became the owner of a 2009 Concours with 3100 miles. I didn't start out the day looking for another bike, but the oportunity to try a sport touring bike was irresistable.  And, it was red.

Never owned a Kawasaki, currently my ride is a 2012 Yamaha Super Tennere (which I plan to keep).
Anyway, I noticed the bike was titled in July of 2010. So, am I correct in assuming that I can have the balance of the 3 years transferred to me? And then be eligible to purchase extended warranty coverage?
I will be talking to local dealers about this, but would appreciate any input from here.

I plan to keep this bike until spring and give it a thorough trial to see how I like it. It is a beautiful beast to just look at but don't know if my knees will take to the riding position.

Thanks in advance.......

Yes it is still under warranty if there was no funny business with it in the past. Like a rebuilt title. I do believe you can get an extended warranty for it. Pretty cheap if you do a search in this site. I think it is $339 for 3 additional years.
I like the Super Tenre. How do you like it? I met someone from New Jersey that put 45,000 in his first year with one. I like how the linked brakes are designed on them. I think rear brake is rear brake only.

You can change the riding position significantly for not a lot of $$.  I had a V-Strom and loved the riding position, probably not far off of the Yama ST.  Murph's additions took some time to grow on me, but I like the Murph's lower pegs and Murph's risers and wedges as well.  I would like to put a set of HWY pegs on... but the ones I have seen were $$$.  It's very comfortable to ride with my setup.... I've done 400 mi days easily.  Only thing is if I go like 2 hrs straight on the interstate and come off to a stop..... my right knee will scream for a few seconds when I straighten out.... but since then I've stretched and stood up here and there so that doesn't happen.

You will love it.  As for knees, get the Ronnie's Highway Pegs, which allow you to move your legs forward several inches for a great alternative position.  I absolutely love mine.

My tennere is a great bike. The linked braking is nice, I suppose, but I can't tell what effect it has. In other words, how would one know if it quit ? I use front mostly anyway. Yes, if you hit the pedal, you get just the rear brake. The seat/peg/seating position is very comfortable for me, but really hard to swing a leg over, and being a tall bike can be a struggle to manuver around when stopped.Perhaps someone younger or in better shape (I'm 57 and a bit stiff in the knees) wouldn't notice this. It does everything do well for me that I didn't need or want another bike. The chance to buy this at a price that will allow me to try this type and if I don't really enjoy it, sell it for a bit of profit, was too good to pass up.........

Thanks for the info. I will be checking w/a Kawi dealer about the warranty and new front rubber. Amazing how far gone it is with only 3100 miles..........

Very Important- warranty doesn't start when bike is titled!!!!! It starts from the time dealer says it sold.
True story- I put down a deposit on a new '11 C14, told dealer that I'd picked it up (out of state) in five weeks.
As soon as dealer got my deposit, he reported it to kawa as being sold (maybe he got some spiff or something).
The warranty was now started! I didn't like the idea of picking up a new bike with 1.5 months less of warranty than it should, I called up kawa, they said too bad, they can't give me an extra 1.5 months or change the start date.
Dealer did the usual B.S . ("it is a great bike, you won't notice that you are short 2 months warranty..."). I thought at the very list they should give me a discount on a extended warranty, when I called them, they said they'd be happy to sell me the extra warranty for $550 which they said was discounted.
That was enough to convince me to cancel and go to another dealer!

Be sure to get those junk Bridgestone 021's off the bike ASAP. They are very dangerous and have caused a lot of grief. Get a pair of Michelin PR2's or PR3's as this forum has recommended. I bought my 2009 with 2,000 miles on it because the bike scared the crap out of the original owner with the 021's on it so he never rode it- he admitted this to me after he sold it. With the PR2's installed, this is the best bike I have ever owned and it now boogies like a proper sport tourer with the FJR's and Porsches it encounters along the way.

If all you did was send the dealer a deposit and did not have paperwork showing you actually took ownership of it I would have raised hell with Kawasaki.  Again, assuming your actual paperwork on the sale showed the correct date of purchase and not just deposit, you would very easily win in a court of law.
