Insurance here used to write off for minor damage but laws have changed and we can not rebirth a vehicle (car or bike) regardless of the damage, once it is written off its only good for spare parts so insurers tend to repair more often now unless the vehicle is in a real bad way.
So coming home from a weekend interstate ride in the wee hrs of Sunday morning I had a little wild life encounter.
My Repair bill AU$11,800.00 including labor, insurance has covered it
- Got home at 7pm Sunday night
- Reported the incident by phone to the insurer on Monday morning (Public Holiday)
- Insurer rings back on Tuesday with claim number
- Rode bike into Bike shop for a repair quote on Wednesday
- Scan and email quote to insurer on Thursday
- Insurer calls on Friday and confirms that the assessor will be around next week
- Assessor turns up Monday morning and approves repairs
- Insurer contacts bike shop on Tuesday and sends through paperwork to go ahead
- Bike is still in Garage waiting for all the parts to come in
- List of parts was three and a half pages long
Insurer was good to deal with, bike shop is moving as fast as they can and they tell me it won't take long to do once the parts are in.
Its just the waiting.
Meanwhile I think I am in withdrawal, the bike is in the garage so I go out and start it regularly, least I can do that.
The details of the encounter:Hit a Red Kangaroo at 110 Km/h:
Resulted in headlighs, right side driving light & mirror, front nose cone, right side plastic and associated brackes being totaled.
Tidied up all the loose bit that were hanging, had one driving light left and got 80km down the road and got T-Bone by another Red Kangaroo.
Hit mid right side which resulted in the pannier being torn off, no other damage
Skippy and his little brother hoppy were both killed on impact, both were going flat out and came out of the dark
No structural damage, Radiator guard had a piece of bracket imbedded in it, the guard saved the radiator.
Out with the tape and tape up the holes and torn bits, as the front hanger got ripped off I had to tie the pannier on with a tie down strap and then rode the remaining 1300km home.
Got some funny looks in the towns along the way, a few Police as well, they looked but did not pull me over.
Cheers
