Spare Kawasaki 12 Volt Plug for left side Cockpit
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:58:00 AM »
I got a new Kawasaki 12 Volt factory plug to install on the left side where the hard plastic round insert is in place to be drilled out.

Question:  Is there a pigtail inside or behind the panel to allow a plug and play of this additional 12 Volt Plug?

If so, what difficulty exists to install it...full cockpit fairing removal??

Pic included herein.

As I recall it plugged right in to a spare accessory plug.  The problem is that the hole in that aluminum is square and the plug does not fit until the hole is opened up.  I did exacly what you are doing and the Kawasaki plug had the same problems as the factory installed one,  I kept losing power to the GPS.  I eventually removed it and went to a Powerlet but the problem then is that the hole is now larger than needed for a Powerlet plug.  If I had it all to do over I would put the Powerlet in to begin with and save yourself a bunch of trouble.

NW, I must admit, I'm kinda dissapointed you asked.  Several topics on your request.  Not as easy as you would think, pull the plug and it becomes clear.

So, you're dissapointed that I didn't use the search feature for you?  I/we kinda expect that kinda question from a noob.  Being a kind hearted guy I went ahead and did it for ya anyway.

lol.  ur probably right.  I deleted the non productive post.  Took a good fall yesterday on the work bike when the engine stalled in a 55 degree lean.  Not pretty.   I sent a PM apologizing so I would rather jus get back on topic.  I have been here a while and was on the old forum so it is nothing new.

Pappy ,

I am not disappointed you used the search for me..I am disappointed you made a comment on my post at all!  As a moderator here, thought you were made of sterner stuff.  So, what I am trying to say in plain English, if you can't or don't want to make a positive or worth while comment to a genuine question....just pass me by and leave some room for someone who wants to be helpful and continue to make this site the best one for the C-14 owners.

I will be glad to order you some Viagra if it will help with your Saturday morning blues.....oh, excuse me....guess you don't have sex any more.  I didn't do a search for you for that one.

Wow, you actually bought the over priced factory 12V plug?  I looked at it when I was adding one to mine, and could not believe what they were asking for it.  I bought one from a local auto parts store for $5 or $10 (came with the rubber cover / plug).

Either way, you'll be grinding metal to install it.  I used a Dremel with small die grinding bit.  I also ran a heavy gauge wire direct from the battery, so I can plug my Slime compressor into it without the bike running.  Normally it's used for the power to my tank bag, when I'm on a longer road trip.

BTW, I have to agree with Pappy.  Noobs are consistently informed about using the search function, as that's what it's there for (Max must have been snoozing), and this topic has been discussed several times before.  Nothing wrong with starting a fresh conversation on the topic, just that the attitudes are unnecessary.  Also, which one of you is supposed to be a moderator?

Now boys, let play nice, please.

As far as moderation goes, I'm moderate but I do believe in at least trying the search function first.  If someone feels the need to remind that it's there, I don't have a problem with that at all.  I can't be everywhere at once nor do I want to be.  There's a wealth of information here but you have to put up some effort to find it.

The over priced socket was a gift from the parts man at the Kawasaki store....owes me a couple of favors..it is worth about 10.00 not 106.95!  That is absolutely a crazy price...Kawasaki should be ashamed of posting a pricing on such a cheap plastic part.

It should be a straightforward drill a hole in the center of the location and plug and play........adds insult to injury to have a square metal plate behind it to re-engineer just for a simple install.

Totally agree with that. They should have put a 12v plug in that hole as well.
