New Sena SMH10 Earbud Clamp
« on: August 28, 2012, 03:30:58 PM »
I figured I'd create a new thread so it doesn't get lost... It lloks like Sena has been listening to their customers. The new Earbud Clamp has a more robust plug. It is flexible like the the standard clamp... Here's what it looks like. I sure wish I had gotten this rather than the Uclear...

So if you had concerns about the old style, I think they can be laid to rest with this new version.

It doesn't look any more robust.  If they want to improve it they need to just mount the plug inside the clamp housing.  None of this pigtail crap.

All I can go by is what others have said and from photos. Wher the plug attaches to the base is the same type of (flexible) plug base as found on most power cords like the ones found on laptop power supplies. I'm sure time will tell, but it looks like this version will work out well.

YMMV

What was your experience with the Uclear?

The same as with any set that only has speakers... If I use the ear protection to save what's left of my hearing, I can't get the volume loud enough to hear the music. The Sena with earbuds solves all my issues...

People I talked to with the unit never knew I was on the bike. A friend said it sounded better than the hands free on my JVC head unit in my Subie.

The only real problem is with my faulty hearing, not with the Uclear. The only problem is with the helmet clamp that uses the sticky tape. The metal clip that holds that main unit in place is not very robust and when I was tweaking it to have it apply more pressure, it broke. Some heavy duty Velcro on the the back of the unit and on the helmet made for a more secure mount.

I'll be selling mine since The Sena with earbuds is the best option for my situation...

If it transmits 10 football fields away, are you worried about the levels of RF is being transmitted into your brain within the bluetooth freq spectrum?

Or maybe i don't understand how this device works, i just read: "Bluetooth intercom functionality up to 900 meters (980 yards)"

My old BMW 330i has proven that my skull is empty... The remote/key has literally no range I mean NO range). To get any distance out of it I have to place the tip of the key under my chin (just touching) then I get decent range... That proves that my head is hollow and there is no brain tha can be damaged by the RF...  :yikes:

My 330ci remote does the same thing, I always figured it was because I had a high density skull which make a good reflector.  ;D
