Air box compressor.
« on: May 25, 2011, 09:56:52 PM »
Went to pull the carbs, and found the boots were totally inflexible and as hard as. Essentially the air box was softer than the boots, so pulling it back made pulling the re-installing the carbs a breeze. The air box doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects.

Now that's a new way of separating the boots from the carbs! Good job! One thing I would be cautious of is splitting the airbox seam..

I would assume you replaced the boots. Correct?   The carb holder rubber is probably rock hard too.

Ancra tie-down strap wrapped round front below the boots, then back up and over the seat horizontal tubes and cinced down works well also...that is if you have straps....
definatly replace the rear rubbers, the front ones last 20 years, just apply grease to the bores on re-install.

When I saw this thread I was thinking...."Who is putting an air compressor in their airbox?
Is this a nifty place to put it or a redneck supercharger?".  :yikes: :rotflmao:
