Mileage Tax
« on: July 28, 2012, 09:59:40 PM »
 Wow, someone must have overspent their budget to come up with this nonsense! Or maybe spent it on to many pet projects. Like we don't pay enough taxes as it is. Just need the lame brains in the Canadian political system to adopt this, so they can retire full pension earlier than the 4 years they need now. :o

What they say, "Born free, taxed to Death". Just may die from paying taxes, especially when they start taxing oxygen. ;D

The GPS will also be used to track people or for some other reason. If you just wanted to tax mileage, everyone already has an odometer. Mileage is easy to tax based on the odometer. Therefore, the GPS use must have an different reason for being used.

No it won't! They already said it was just for collecting a small additional fee, nothing more!  ::)

Lemme think... Don't most cars/truck/(but not motorcycles) have some sort of annual emissions or inspection done? Look at the odometer (like they don't do this already), count wheels/axles...

But what happens if I, who lives in CO, drive into GPS enabled La-La Land?

I actually think this is all inevitable, unfortunately.  Cars are getting better gas mileage, electric cars are coming (slowly), biodiesel is here (is that french fries I smell on the interstate?), and all sorts of other non-gas vehicles are coming on the market.  We pay for roads (supposedly) with taxes on gas and on road diesel.  They've got to come up with another plan to pay for the roads.  I don't want to see it as I drive for a living, for the most part.  There's two parts to this, federal and state.  I wonder what the feds are thinking about?

It's coming, but it may be some time until it's implemented completely.  If they are going to do that then take the taxes off of gasoline and diesel.

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street;
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat;
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat;
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
