CDA - Carb Droppers Anonymous
« on: August 12, 2011, 03:14:21 PM »
OK.... what do you all think?  Fatal?   :-\

#1 has the chunk (and gouge) taken out of it... and #4 looks a tad out-of-round.  Am I ok as long as I get a good seal on the boots?

I'll finish the cleaning I started and wait for my answer  :-[

Ah I hate that!!  :(

So long as the slide slides OK, I think the boot should cover it, and all will be OK.  :)

I'd CAREFULLY clean up the burred edges with a fine file, being aware of any debris needing to be blown out, completely clean them spraying liberally with GUMOUT, and repeated blow off's, and procede.
When you re-install, smear the inner surfaces of all the bubber boots with a light coating of bearing grease, I do this everytime anyways, it assists in keeping the sealing area pliable, and assists in sealing.
carry on.
you do have new flexible boots don't ya? ;)

yeah... I knocked he edge down... blew it out w/ gumout n air.  No loose metal bits.

Remarkably...my boots are in fairly good shape - being the originals on a '99.  I never have a problem with 'em.  I did hit 'em with silicone this time while I had the carbs out.

Got 'em back in... tank hooked up.  Fired up w/o a problem.  Got 'em synched, changed the oil, installed a 12v lighter socket that's been in the garage for YEARS.  Then all buttoned up.  Just in time for the rain  >:(

In the garage... it sounds like my dead-cylinder problem is gone.  Seems to be running smoother.  Took a no-contact voltage tester to make sure my stick coils were drawing power... that's all good.

Maybe it'll dry out enough for a shakedown cruise...
