I've had a Facebook account since it started...or very early after. How long has it been?..7-8 years now?...
In any case, it's like television...I could very easily live without it. You see, the problem...around here at least, is that Facebook killed the few local motorcycle forums we had....I mean, it ended them. So, I find it handy for keeping in contact with my motorcycle friends....other than that, it's all just mindless drivel...lol. Every bit of it.
On a side note...but related, I just read something the other day about how a restaurant owner in NYC did his own study on the use of smart phones, etc and how it's hurting his business. Apparently, people are taking 6 minutes longer (on average) to eat and finish their meals in restaurants...playing with their phones and not reading the menu...playing with their phones and not eating....taking pictures of their food, and finally, playing with their phones while they send their food back to be reheated because they were too distracted to eat it while it was hot...lol.
So, add 6 minutes to every customer's visit, and at the end of the day, it's all taking valuable time from other potential customers. I hadn't thought of it until I read it, but it's a bit disturbing imho.
PS: BDF...you're thoughts on Facebook are right on target;).
