90 076 km on the clock
« on: October 27, 2014, 12:38:48 AM »
I know it's punny km, not miles, but I hit 90 000 yesterday on the clock and this morning when I started the bike and saw that 9 in front I just gasped. Over dinner yesterday my girlfriend told me that she can't see me parting ways with this bike because of all the places we've been together. At least 25 countries, many stories, perfect reliability, rain that stopped traffic (but not me), cold (12°F is the lowest I've been on a bike), snow (15 feet, to be precise, well over the roof top of the enormous Caterpillar bulldozer clearing up the road), blazing heat (108°F)... we always kept going, always got to my destination and had fun doing it, and as good as never got overtaken when I was in "bansai!" mode.
The relatively frustrating part is that I wanted to hit the 100 000 mark before the end of the season, but it just won't happen. New girlfriend, busy job, having other bikes to ride (I put some 10 000 miles on the 1400 GTR this year and about 7000 on a combination of others) just bit off from my riding-for-fun time. Not that I'm complaining, but you know how it is with numbers  ;D
Happy riding to all of us!

Education is important. Riding my bike is importanter.

Awfully sad state of affairs to let these things get between you and your riding.  Where are your priorities?  ;)

Congrats Martin! Don't always have to meet your goals, just set them and do your best. When I was forced into early retirement I set my goal to ride more miles each year. The second year of retirement I topped out at 31,000 miles and I have not quite been able to top that since. BUT, the main reason for that is the wife and I have made some awesome trips in the mountains (including the Alps!) where long 500 mile days don't come but the smiles do. Also I bought a Dual Sport and a Ducati Superbike which also cover less ground but are plenty of fun.

From your description it sounds like you are having lots of fun too!

BTW, in puny kms my 08 is at 208,239.  ;D
Nothing worse than having your balls go missing.

This is what this bike is all about. Awesome writing too. Thank you for sharing this!

Every time I look at my bike, I think back on all the roads we've traveled, and those that lie ahead.
