I'm somewhat eclectic (word of the day) in my music appreciation (big band, rat pack, RnR, Disco, Hair bands, 90/2000 stuff, current pop, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, women jazz singers, UK artists).. JB doesn't figure in to what I like to listen too. Taylor Swift is actually quite good in her singing/music now that she's left country music behind.
Jim, your playlist sounds a lot like mine. I probably ought to expand my horizons a bit but most of the new stuff doesn't appeal to me for some reason. That's not to say there's no good new music out there, I don't hear much much new music because of my radio listening habits. I only hear "late model" music if I am channel surfing and something I happen to like is playing.
I used to listen to a lot of country music but in my opinion it has crossed way to far in to the "adult contemporary" venue to be considered country. Lately it has drifted to hip-hop to appeal to more young folks. It ain't what it used to be, for the most part.
I'm not even sure what causes a song to be appealing to me. I find myself cranking up the 1812 Overture, Waylon Jennings, ZZ Ward, Springsteen, Nina Simone, Uriah Heap, Marvin Gay, whatever trips my trigger. I just don't know what causes that.
I've found my interests have changed over the years to a more wide spectrum of artists than what it was when I was younger. Since you mentioned Marvin, Motown has always been one of my favorites. Don't care much for Rap at all. Can't see anything in it. When I listened to FM as a kid, it wasn't as compartmentalized as it is now. They played all sorts of music then.
