I also used the Ram x grip for several years. The only gripe was the tendency of the rubber or neoprene grippers to come off.
I have never had one let go. But one was somewhat loose. So I put some rubber cement on the inside and stuck it on and now it is very much on there
As for wind, that will likely depend on where it is mounted. If it is low/center, I don't think it is ever a problem (I will only admit to having gone really fast, depending on ones' definition of "really fast"). Mine grips very strongly, and I can pull on the phone with force and it not come free.
For those very paranoid, RAM also has an option for a "tether", a rubber web that further secures the corners.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiYdGiSxFZsThe problem with most other mounts is that they require a specific case (that I don't want) or something stuck permanently to the back of the phone (which I also don't want) or require just too much difficulty putting the phone on or off.
