Yes, 1200-1250. Shifting will smooth out as well.
Do you want to do what the manual says or do you want it to work (this is to no one in particular)? Set it to 1250 or so and forget about it.
When I picked mine up new it was over 1300, I took it down to 1150 and it works great there. I'm sure some do better at higher idle but mine likes 1150......Shifts great.
Clunk is normal....
I had to turn my idle down as well. Still get a clunk, but I like it. There's no mistaking that you put the bike in 1st gear.
No way. By far a Harley Davidson clunking into first gear is by far the hardest clunk you'll ever hear out of a motorcycle transmission. Good thing those Harley trannys are just about bullet proof!
