Any fishermen out there?
« on: August 16, 2013, 06:04:37 AM »
Are you into fishing?  Freshwater or saltwater, from a boat or shore...doesn't matter.

One of the things I like to do in the nice weather, besides ride my motorcycle, is to go fishing.
I live in southern NH and the Merrimack River is the place I enjoy.  It's loaded with smallmouth bass, and many other species.
I have a 14' Sea Nymph boat with a 15hp Mercury outboard that has provided countless hours of fun and relaxation.

The picture is a nice smallie I caught.   I release all fish I catch, and take their picture if it's a good one.

I used to quite a bit, but after my father-in-law passed on in 2009, I haven't.  Nice fish.

Great looking fish!

I live in Northern VA in a marshy area off the Occoquan River which is just a mile or two off the Potomac River.  I can fish right off my seawall and that's where the picture was taken.  It's freshwater tidal.  We've been invaded by Northern Snakeheads from Asia and it is now a done deal in our ecosystem.  This is the bigest one I have landed at just under 27" and 12 pounds.  I've probably caught 50 of them this summer.  The world record was just caught a few miles down stream near Aquia.  I think it will be broken again next year as there are a lot of large fish out here.  These things love top water lures and will destroy them.  After about 4 or 5 fish, the lure is trash.  I've hooked a few that have just straighened the treble barb right out within a few seconds.  On new lures, I replace the hooks with better eagle claws from the start.  I also use 20 pound braided spider wire.  These things are awesome when they hit, the water just explodes!

They sure taste great and you are required (by law) to kill and report any you catch even if you don't plan on eating them.

There are still many large mouth bass and catfish around here too.

Used to go surf fishing in Pensacola during the summer in HS.  Really liked it a lot.  Did a few off shore runs in Hawaii with my  friends whose families had boats.  I always consumed what I caught...  8)

VirginiaJim,
Thanks for the 'nice fish' comment.

RFH7,
Thanks also.  That's a bummer about those Snakeheads and what they're doing, damn invasive species!

JoeRau,
Nice fish, and pictures of them.

Last Saturday I went fishing and caught five different species:
14 smallmouth bass
11 sunfish, kibbies
4 fallfish
1 calico bass, crappy
1 yellow perch

I've also caught these, but they are rare in this section: walleye, stripped bass, herring, trout, and carp.
