Color matched side scoops
« on: July 29, 2012, 10:09:58 AM »
Had some extra paint left after painting Dougs whindshield last weekend, so I thought I would paint the side scoops to match the bike. Took a few hours but overall I like the look.

Just don't use them in the "winter" position.

They do look nice, though.

I did reverse them this winter. After a few months I took them off the bike completely. Dont ask me why but I got more hot air hitting my feet without the scoops then with them.

If ya want even more toasty air on yer feet in winter get a set of the Winter Deflectors from Murphs.

Warm dry toasty feet.  ;D 8)

If that's not enough for ya, then ask about blocking off the lower fairing vents with foam.
If ya still have cold feet after that then ya need heated socks.

Neat look with the scoops colour coded.  ;D

If you were out riding the beast you wouldn't have time to paint it!  Nice looking bike.  Enjoy it any way you desire.... far be it for me to say anything about a clean bike.  (I'm too busy riding and trying to stay cool here in DFW to bother with anything other than fixing the little things that need fixed on an eleven-year-old bike)  Mike in TX

Well Mike I don't know what to tell you, I rode 10,000 last year and am at the 8,500 mark for the year as of today. And I still had time for painting projects.

Those look really nice Bill. Now that you mention it, I've been riding mine without the scoops are have roasted the little piggies more than once this summer. Guess I'll reinstall'em and see if I notice the difference.
Does this mean we get a "Re-Do" on life too?

I know I notice a diff with the scoops on or off. Much cooler with them on imho.

Silly looking or not, they DO work down here in 100+ temps.  I simply turn 'em around for cold winter rides to keep more engine heat on my legs and feet.  (They are a pain to keep bugless...)   Mike in TX

I agree, those scoops are really nice painted - though they do lose their reversibility...

But I'm REALLY interested in those beautiful side boxes; where did you get those???

I scarred up my left cover and the reflector really badly in a spill on the Friday before the fourth (now I have replaced both antlers to spills!) and I'm not excited about paying $650 for a replacement.

I painted them myself. One weeks worth of work but well worth it in the end.
