First off, WOAH!

COG/ZGGTR has changed so much over the past year or so and what a mess! Anyhow, glad I found my way back here. I had searched here and there and I think its the water pump seal that is going bad. My 86 connie with 60k started with an oil leak early in the year. I had pulled the plastic off to try and diagnose, with no luck as of yet. Just recently after moving to remove the plastic, I saw coolant in the oil leak. I think it's that water pump seal that I've seen threads on...

Can anyone confirm this, and if so point me in the right direction to correct? Thanks,

    The water pump has an O-ring seal to keep the oil from leaking out of the engine case. The O-ring is replacable if is the cause of the oil leak.  Look at the bottom of the water pump. You should see a small weep hole. If you see antifreeze leaking out of the hole you probably need a new pump. It is not rebuildable. Murph's has them.

If your coolant is coming out of the weep hole you need a new pump.

If oil is coming from the weep hole you need a new oil seal but you might as well do the pump replace because you may need it soon anyhow and a new seal is tough to get seated so it stays put.  A thought on the seal - if it is leaking oil that oil must be going thru the bearing.  If the oil washed out the bearing grease then the bearing life may be limited with a new seal?

I've done the oil seal twice or thrice, finally enlarging it a little with a socket pressed in a little to widen the O.D. of the seal.  Some say loctite red does a good job holding it. 

If oil is coming from the o-ring area and not the pump you can replace the o-ring.  You will want to replace the water pipe o-ring in the process.
