Body Panel Removal Process or Order Info Where?
« on: July 14, 2012, 07:07:31 PM »
Is there a place where I could find what order and how to remove all the body panels?  When I was running wiring for my electrical accessories this spring after it's purchase I found body bolts and plastic tabs that I was fearful of snapping off due to binding.  When removing what seemed to be the correct panel removal sequences I was wrong practically every time.  It seemed I was removing every piece in the wrong order because each piece was kind of hung up?  To say the least, I was kind of aggravated :/  Any sequence help would be greatly appreciated and where I could find this too!

Somewhere on this forum BDF posted the order for removal of the plastic bits on our bikes. Try doing a search, it's here someplace.

Not sure if the removal process for an '08/'09 will be same for an '11. But I have recently done it on mine and it is not very hard to figure out where all the tabs and bolts are. If a piece is hard to come out, more than likely there is a hidden bolt rather than a tab. It seemed to me, the tabs are not very hard to pop out - minimal force needed.

That's what I thought too, but the hand-warmer controls stopped the left side coming off and the right side top was attached to something too?  Because of this, I couldn't remove the top side panels.  I tried looking it up in the Factory Service Manual with no luck.  It seemed like every panel locked into another.  Needless to say it wasn't pretty but I got 'er dun.  I'm trying to get info for the proper way to remove all panels for winter projects...

Thanks again for all your great advise!

Three bolts and a push pin per side. One extra bolt in the glove box on the left. Simply unplug the grip heater control and it's done.

IF the assembly tech put that bolt in to begin with.

I had the plastics off the first week... trial and error. No problem to do it now. Like field stripping a rifle in the jungle.  ;D

WOW!

Just received the DVDs of Fred's.  They are incredible.  I immediately went to the new addition DVD #10 of the later model Concours to see how the side panels came apart.  Again, WOW!  No wonder why I struggled... dozens of special hidden push snaps than can be easily broke if you don't know where they are and which directions to push, pull, sqeeze... UGH :/

Again you guys pulled through here, thanks!  Great value and now I can do maintenances I never attempted before.  Can't wait till winter now :)

Exactly and yes :P

I was amazed at just seeing part of DVD 10 what I learned about my bike.  The one that I love is cleaning behind the windshield I had to keep turning on/off the bike for washing waxing.  The video simply showed that when you turn the bike off, just tap the windshield switch and it will stay at the position you had it- perfect for cleaning/waxing.  I also can't wait to do all the services now.  Seeing how easy it was to service/disassemble the drive shaft will be a first for me... can't wait :)
