Want to install a Throttle Tamer on my 2010 with heated grips.  Can the right throttle heated stock grip be safely removed and reinstalled over a new Throttle Tamer without damage?

I doubt it. Those things are pretty stiff! :o

First of all, I bought my 2010 used so I'm not sure  if I have original cables or extensions.

I read other threads recommending the throttle tamer as a cure for throttle snatch. So... I bought the G2 TT and watched the video on youtube showing installation of a different cam (into same grip housing... looks simple enough.

So I began the disassembly of the throttle grip and I was having trouble getting slack on the cables to release them from the present cam assembly and getting the bottom housing piece to go over the throttle cable adjustment.

I took a couple pics to show where I am in the process, and then I did a search on Throttle grip and up popped this thread that says I probably  can't do the job at all w/o destroying the heated grips... so a couple questions.

1.If you guys help me figure out how to unhook the throttle cables from the present grip, can I replace the throttle tube on my 2010 heated grip with a G2 TT w/o destroying the heated grip?

2. How do I get slack in the cables to remove them from the present grip? (If I unhook/loosen the throttle adjustment nuts, won't I have to resync or calibrate the throttle cables?)

Those nuts are just adjustments for the slack in the cable... loosen 'em up and the cables come right off the tube... then install the new tube, hook the cables back in, adjust the nuts to remove excess slack.

Thanks a lot for the help. I'll fire the compressor up after lunch and go from there. From the comments on the links you posted, I'm hoping for a smooth time. I'll let you know.

I'm hoping, too. I'm planning to finally get my Tamer on this weekend, so definitely post any info that you think might be relevant.

Those nuts are just adjustments for the slack in the cable... loosen 'em up and the cables come right off the tube... then install the new tube, hook the cables back in, adjust the nuts to remove excess slack.

I found on my installation that previous settings for the adjuster was a little  too loose for the throttle tamer.  I had to tighten them up a bit more.  If you turn the black adjuster towards the throttle it loosens the cable.  Away from the throttle tightens the cable up.

I got my G2 Throttle Tamer installed. My air compressor is a 2 gal 100 psi unit and it was not up to the task of loosening the grips.

I wound up using a small flat blade screw driver to loosen the grip from the throttle tube (TT), and then used a longer phillips head that was about as long as was the grip. I rotated the screwdriver around the circumference of the TT under the grip, and then it twisted off pretty easily. That was the hardest part of the job. I did not damage the heated grip using this method.

I used a 25% alcohol/water mixture to lubricate the grip to slide over the new TT (the same liquid I used when installing the bag protector plastic sheets).

One cautionary note. Take a pic of the grip setup before you start removing anything and one showing the location of the warmer wiring exiting the grip. These will help you remember how things were positioned and how to position the grip, etc when you are reassembling the grip and wiring covers.  ;D
