Just heard, he was 86. Probably the best loved TV show ever made, I watched it growing up and have seen it many times over the years in reruns and have grown to really appreciate it more now.

Makes me sad every time someone of that generation passes on. Feels like another piece of what made America great has passed on as well:'(.  Not saying that we were a perfectly moral people back then, but compared to where we are and seem to be heading; it is truly.......well.......sad.

I went through Mt. Airy NC just the other week and thought about him.  I hear Jim Nabors isn't doing very well either.

Thanks V-Jim. Every show had a lesson, you learned while you watched and didn't even know it, well us kids didn't, it appealed to kids and adults alike though. A slower time, a simpler time, a better time, at least for me.

Very sad, but these old fellows are all on borrowed time.  Sheriff Andy was one of my electronic "foster fathers", along with Ward Cleaver, Lucas McCain, Gomer Pyle, "Mathews - Highway Patrol", etc.  These shows, even while being the mainstream of the "boob tube", always left us with some sort of lesson learned and a good moral statement at the end.  Entertainment and education.  Not like today.

Nosmo, I couldn't have explained it any better.

Grew up without a physical dad, but I do believe some of these shows and an aunt who made sure I was in church, made all the difference...

Church never did much for me.  I attribute how I turned out to my father-in-law for the most part.  My dad died very early.  I was 12.  We both liked gin and it went on from there.  He was a good man.  I miss him and my dad.

I miss the old shows like Andy Griffith starred in.   They had comedy that was universal and didn't have to shock anyone to make it funny.

Not to start a religious thread, but I probably should give God the credit as the Church hasn't always had the best reputation... ;)
