Coming up on the 24k service, and am going to have it done by the book.  Did the 15k the same way.  Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

what do you mean by "by the book"? you performed the service yourself? If so, kudos. I wish I had the time and place to take care of it myself 

My advise is beware of stealerships.

What 24000 mile service? The book calls for 15,000 or 24000 KM. Or did I miss something?
I had mine done at a dealer, total cost was only $518.00. Not bad considering what I heard from others that had the 15000 mile service done at a dealer.

Next time I take a bike to the dealership for a Valve job i'm going to ask for a copy of the valve specs.  so i can "track any changes"  It also gives a better chance of it actually getting done, Maby.

Plan on it being down for at least a week if doing it yourself, unless you plan ahead and have ready access to all the shims you might need.  Also, take digital pictures along the way, and lay out all the parts in sequence, so reassembly can go smoother.

The biggest part of the job is getting to the valve cover.  Once you're in there, it's very straight forward.  Also, be on the lookout for squatters, or their camp sites.  See the pictures of mine here :  http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=8952.0

I'm definitely taking it in, I dont have time to do it myself.  Double checked the book, and it is 24k.  They're telling me $380 plus parts but it doesnt really matter as there arent a lot of choices in the matter here.  I do have the valve specs from last time so that should be interesting.

I DID see that!  No chewed wiring though so that was a plus.

Turns out there was some chewed wiring, but not all the way through.  The air pressure sensor wires were missing some insulation right at the connector (posted a pic in the other thread).

I did check the spark plug gap, and found them to be just out of spec (too wide).  This is the first time the plugs have been out since new (24K+ now).  I adjusted them back to the middle of spec, and I'll check them again in 25K miles.

Valves STILL within spec.  Mechanic says slight adjustment of TB's.  Only rode about a mile home but I definitely feel a difference.

So maybe I'm reading something wrong. On the maintenance chart it has 2 numbers across the top,  isn't the top number KM and the bottom umber miles? If the top number is miles than there is no 7500 mile service or 15000 miles service. Look on pg. 147 of the owners manual. I'm confused!!!

miles is in parentheses in my manual. 7500 and 15k miles are definitely service intervals.

But ya get charged like they did.   I have a friend that is starting to have a pretty lucrative business, he does mobile tire changes, planned maint, has an accessories shop, is a tire dealer etc.......and he will be checking my C14 when it is time.

Glad you got positive feedback and hope it is reliable and accurate.

At 15,580 miles I did my own work and found I had several out of spec and a bunch right at the tight side of the range so I wound up changing/swapping 16 out of 16 to center or move them towards the loose end of the range. With them checked and adjusted this way I don't plan to go back in again until around 40,000 miles, a 25,000 mile interval.

I fully expect I may not have to make another shim change for the next several 25k mile checks and feel more comfortable knowing they are in range rather than running it until they are out of spec. YMMV, so do what makes you comfortable.
