I like to camp but we don't do the tent thing- we did that exactly once. We've gone from pop ups to tow behind units and now have a class C with a tow behind trailer for the bikes (come and visit us at the Kettle Campground in Arkansas for the rally).

Having a bathroom is a big deal for me- maybe it's a "girl" thing. We do tend to take a seat lots more than the guys do so knowing I'm using my own facilities gives me some comfort.

I actually get a little skived out with hotels/motels. I just don't think they clean them well enough no matter what you're paying for the night.

When you are camping you get to stay near the fun roads instead of going off to a town to find a hotel.

You get to enjoy the comraderie of other bikers if you stay at motorcycle only campgrounds as well.   Here are some of my favorite camping photos for motivation.

Tell your wife,  Camping is what you make it.....I am on her side about the bathroom issue....but prepardness for that is the difference between icky in the woods and icky campground bathrooms.  I also agree with others here...take her car camping first with all your gear and that way she isn't stuck in a bad enviroment if the weather hits bad...she can get in the car/truck/SUV

In my younger days I backpacked and camped all over the US, including Alaska.  That was where I tore my right knee up.  Back then I didn't care about the "icky-ness" of certain things...but as I got older...well I started to care more....

over the years we (my Ex-SO) and I
backpacked
Car Camped
Truck camped
Big humongous Tent camped
Pop-up  (shold have stopped right there)
28' Tag camper trailer
and then went to a 32' TT with triple slide outs

Then after that  and being single I went back to "camping" at the hotel/lodge

recently I have started real camping again,(still single ;D) partly because I want to get back to my roots and i love to sit by a campfire.....and I am a "prepper" (is the current term I think) and I wanted to re-new my gear and get back outside

I have a lot of high speed-low drag gear but needed a new tent and I wanted something I could "hide" if I decided to motorcycle camp (Wanting)

I just bought one of these....

(Diamond Brand USMC Military issue USMC Combat Tent w/reversible fly)  Found a brand new one in the box on E-Bay  a friend of mine got one too so we got a package deal)

We went to REI last night and got the rest of the gear i.e. sleeping bags, sleeping mat, Jetboil, quick dry towels, headlamps and a light to hang inside the tent. My wife is 5'1 but INSISTED to go with the long sleeping bag as it was more "comfortable" than the regular.  ::) If it makes her a happy camper (no pun intended) then it's worth it. I think I'm going to do that car idea too, wouldn't hurt in case it rained. Plus we can bring the dog with us too!!  ;)

p.s. Those pictures were definitely motivational!!

If you do camp when it is colder out, she can put her morning clothes in the bottom of the sleeping bag so they aren't too cold in the morning.  I hope you got bags that can mate together so you two can share body heat.  They even have mummy bags that can mate together.

not a Connie but same theory applies. in that yellow sack is a tarp, Two thermarest pads, food, two sleeping bags a tent, hammer, extra stakes....

now it has evolved into a pelican

back in the Connie days we took espresso with us

and this is how we looked right before leaving for SC coast last year. Pelican stuffed with a dry float sack on top.
We use a Eureka 2xt tent, Slumberjack ultralight sleeping bags Thermarest (Womens version because they are thicker) Usually stay gone two weeks. take stove and cook our food. backpack style.

As previously mentioned:
My wifes idea of roughing it is "room service".
It might be easier to convince her that a 3 way with Victoria Secret model of her choice is in order. Like you could actually go wrong with that, ever.
Good luck, and ride safe all.

TimA,

That's a good pic of you two above.

Thanks. I like this one but it didn't show the packing system.
My daughter bought me the whole series of those. I love them.

Our toyhauler has keep the peace in the family since 99.  I've been in some nasty motels over the years and in many great ones too. Our toyhauler is MY dirt, MY splooge, etc... and NO bed bugs which has become a major motel/hotel problem.
You don't know who slept in the motel bed the night before you. Could have been some filth from Newark or Camden.  In the toyhauler it could only be us.

Hey Chris, check out the International Brotherhood of Motorcycle Campers, great group of riders/campers.  My fiancee had never ridden or camped before I met her, now she looks forward to going.  The right company helps!  BTW you appear to be in the North East, Monadnock State Park in Jaffrey, NH has nearly new facilities; cleanest bathrooms I've seen at a campground!
Good luck, Brian
