Rear shock removal question
« on: June 02, 2012, 07:30:51 PM »
I'm removing the rear shock and I don't want to bust anything I don't have to...Kawi service manual says "remove the damper stick"...which is the black plastic piece with the white numbers on it...then it says "loosen the lock nut and remove the damper rod"...my question:  Does the "damper stick" unscrew from the "damper rod"?  The service manual says nothing more than "remove" it...

Thanks in advance...

When I removed my shock, I unscrewed the black plastic knob and
the retaining nut for the air hose at the filler.
I left the damper rod and air hose attached for the remainder
of the removal/re-installation. No problem.

That's exactly the way I did it too.  There's plenty of room to wiggle the damping adjustment rod out as you drop the shock.  Just make sure you have it pushed all the way in and it's easy peasy.  Also, don't forget to unscrew the knob, as you'll have an awfully hard time getting it out with that on.
