Rattle from the windshield mecanism
« on: May 15, 2012, 05:58:59 PM »
Hi guys,

notice a rattle noise from the inside the fearing. looks like its coming from the windshield tracks. Obvious when running over a really damage road.

anybody experienced it and anyway to resolve or i have to live with it.

Also, notice a clunck noise when i do apply front brakes really fast and release them immediatly. Kind of really fast sequence of apply/release front brake without braking. Dont ask me how i came to do such thing.

Theres no play in the direction column and the clunck noise looks like the rattle noise from the windshield but initiated by the brake operation.

Thx for any inputs

Clunking could be that the steering head bearings need adjustment.  Rattling noise, assuming coming from the shield tracks is a warranty item assuming you still have warranty or extended warranty.

Excuse me, how did you come to do that thing???
 :rotflmao:

Seriously, the braking clunk could be the floating brake disk especially the first time you use the brakes after cranking up the bike.
It happened on my HD Dyna and it was absolutely normal!

A deeper check is recommended anyway: my suggestion was just a possible cause.

This isn't a HD.

I've never heard a knock from my disc brakes.  The only knock I have heard was fixed by adjusting the steering head bearings.

should i feel a little play in the steering with the wheel jacked when a bearing need adjustment ?

You may or may not feel play.  I didn't have play in mine that I could feel, yet when adjusted the knock stopped.
