Whew, I thought you meant Washington State, I go across the bridge quite often and I would have been screwed. They are banned in Virginia and Washington DC. What do you care? You are from Oregon right? If that is a true statement, we (ZG, you, and I) should round up the black beauties and go for a ride. I may be getting you and BeaverMatt mixed up.

I did some research on the iRadar and found it does have some flaws but I am hoping they work those out in the iPhone app as time goes by. Well they better, cause at that price I pulled the trigger on the Cobra and a RAM Motorcycle Clutch & Brake Radar Detector Mount yesterday. More farkles to add to my quickly accruing list for this bike. I have the GLX bluetooth helmet with a Ram iPhone mount next to my cup holder so it only seemed logical to buy the iRadar  :D :D :D

Thanks for the clarification. I read Washington and Virginia somewhere a while back and just assumed Virginia and Washington state, not DC. They are also illegal in some parts of Canada, so that might be an issue eventually.

I think I might pick one up too. Honestly, for ~$90.00, the thing could be a total piece of crap and I wouldn't lose a bit of sleep over it. If Cobra continues to update the software, it can only get better.

All of my helmets have BT headsets integrated into them. My iPhone is mounted dead center between the handlebars; I never ride without it.

Yeah, let's get a ride together sometime. Unfortunately, I will be the red sheep in the pack :)

You ran those new purchases past the wife first right?    :o
Right after I clicked "Purchase".  :P

They are also illegal in some parts of Canada, so that might be an issue eventually. Not so sure they will let me into Canada yet, so I will not worry about that for now.

I think I might pick one up too. Honestly, for ~$90.00, the thing could be a total piece of crap and I wouldn't lose a bit of sleep over it. If Cobra continues to update the software, it can only get better. My thoughts exactly.

Ya, I was thinking of BeaverMatt, he has a black one. I think he is in Corvallis. Jay and I are around Hillsboro. Where are you? While we're mixin colors I will see if my other buddy that rarely rides will pull his silverdammit (I think he is embarrassed, kind of like a moped complex  :o )out of the shop.

Why would a BLACK bike need a radar detector?  Wouldnt you need to exceed the limit to make a detector effective?  Red bikes may need one, but ten over rarely gets a ticket.  Silverdammit on the other hand, I just unplug 3 plug wires, 20 over aint that big a ticket!!!!

There's another C14 rider on the "other" forum that has/had a 2010 blue non-ABS. I rode with him once, but I don't know his username. We met through a Portland ridding group that I don't ride with very often...

Have the Escort 9500i on both the C-14 and new ZX14r, and will NEVER leave home without them!  Work perfect never miss an alert....easy to use, plug it into the Mix-It amplifier, then into my custom molded stereo earphones........the Zumo 550 is also wired up to the Mix-It and all 3 units work perfectly together.....never an issue...Have music, GPS, and Radar all coming into the earphones with no issues.

Ninja

+1 on the Escort 9500i. I had a cheapo unit for years. 95% false warning, 5% real. The 9500i is the exact opposite, 95%+ real warnings. Has gps with a database that also warns of red light cams (I do not run lights so not a big deal for me) but the gps also knows your speed and will automatically adjust sensitivity based on speed. No need to switch from highway to city. Besides having excellent discrimination of real radar versus automatic doors the gps will automatically screen out false detections by signature and location. If it see the exact signature at a given location 3 times in a row it will screen it out. A bit pricey but if it saves you even 2 tickets it is worth it.

BTW, Virginia and Washington are the only states that completely outlaw detectors in the US, so far.

That is not correct.  Virginia is the only state that outlaws detectors.  Period.  Washington DC is another tiny area that also bans them... they are not a state.
Shoodaben (was Guhl) Mountain Runner ECU flash, Canyon Cages front/rear, Helibars risers, Phil's wedges, Grip Puppies, Sargent World seat-low & heated & pod, Muzzy lowering links, Soupy's stand, Nautilus air horn, Admore lightbar, Ronnie's highway pegs, front running lights, all LED, helmet locks, RAM Xgrip, Sena SMH10, Throttle Tamer, MRA X-Creen, BearingUp Shifter, PR4-GT, Scorpion EXO-T1200,etc

I have been riding with the iRadar for a week now. I think it works great, it has alerted me of a few leo's rolling with their radar on, and it has also given me some false alarms. The false alarms are around grocery stores or any other stores with automatic doors, but you can click on the False alert and I think it remembers for future. I have not been able to test this theory but I am optimistic.

The one thing I do not like is when it alerts me through my helmet it shuts off my tunes. I have to exit the iRadar app open my iTunes and click play each time. And iPhone's do not work well with gloves on. Hopefully this can be updated in the iRadar app.

Most of the county sheriff's and one of the city leo's around my area sit out on the highway with laser guns and no radar detector is going to help. They typically sit on the same overpasses so I know where I need to proceed with caution.

I was able to se an Escort 8500i in action in my friends car. He claims it will pick up laser, but you have to react almost instantly to prevent the laser from winning the battle.

Looks like a great unit, as is the 9500i.   The Mix-it headphone solution is excellent advice as well.

I'm glad to hear that it works OK. I might pick one up before I take any longer trips this summer.

The software issue would be an annoyance. Hopefully they will correct the problem with an update. Does your headset have a play button for music? Mine does. I wonder if I could start my music again without having to use the iPhone...

As for Laser detection (not jamming), there's really nothing out there that will gives you enough advanced warning to be effective. By the time the detector goes off (if it goes off), it's usually too late. However, laser requires office interaction, so you will find that it's not as widely used in rural areas (where I'm most likely to exceeded the speed limit).

If an LEO is lasing ( if that's how it's spelled) cars in front of you, your detector will pick up on the scatter off the other cars, but you gotta grab at the brakes quickly.
