The other day I managed to get a puncture in my rear PR II with about 60-70% tread left on it.  I plugged it and got home.   I followed the manufactures suggestion and drove 20 mph.  Took 3 1/2 hours to get home and I got passed by 500 cars, 6 mopeds and a skateboarder. :-[ ;D

The puncture is between the tread pattern where you would find the wear guide indicator and the plug would never even touch the ground until the tire is bald.  (I thought I was in luck and could avoid a tire replacement)  However, the tires is leaking and so I guess it is time to replace it.

The front is a PR II.

I have been reading about going to a 190/55/17 and am considering trying it.  I have found a PR II in 190/55/17 and a PR III in 190/50/17 for about the same price.

I am leaning towards the taller PR II tire, but thought I would seek input from people that know more then me.

Thanks

Go with the 190/55, I have yet to hear of any negative reviews. There are a couple of guys that didn't notice any difference in handling but the majority (myself included) love how the taller tire feels when the road gets twisty.

I've seen several of your posts indicating how much you like the taller tire.  Unless the PR III is heads above the II, I think I will try the taller II out.

The only reason I would go with the PR3 over the PR2 is if I lived in a very damp climate. Otherwise the PR2 is just as good for a couple less bucks.

PR3s are available in 190/55/17 FYI. If you ride a lot in the rain go with PR3s.

The only place that I could find close pricing is just out of stock on the PR III 55's and I need to order in the morning.  I only ride in the rain when I am stuck in the rain. ;D

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the replies.

Dennis Kirk just took $171 from me.  Guess I will be experiencing a taller tire on Friday!

Go with the 2 in 55 profile, the 3 for me is way to soft on the edges (prob why so good in the wet) for anything more than commuting.

PRIII FTW and what i purchase.  Although I'm good on either as long as its a 55 height.
