Shinko Verge tire report
« on: April 10, 2012, 03:11:45 PM »
I just replaced my rear Shinko Verge with 6900 miles. Will call it 6700 as I pushed it a littlr too far, see pic. This tire handles and sticks as good, wet or dry as the Pirelli and better than anything else I have tried, including the Mich PR2. The handling did not drop off much even after 5000 miles.
Given the price advantage it is a clear winner. The only complaint I have is it has a stiff carcass and is the hardest tire to mount and dismount I have ever done. This stiffness is also noticeable in the ride over bumps but not bad enough to change my purchase decision, I  put another one on yesterday.

We don't have to put legal disclaimers on advice we give in open forums yet do we?  :-X

Yes, the Shinko tread does have two poly plies under the steel belt. I once went a full 400 miles with steel showing all around on a Conti Road Attack (differernt bike), this was only about 30 miles.  What was worrying me a little was the puncture caused by an unidentified scrap of steel and the slow leak.

Yup, Hes only thru One of the four layers of protection.   see   8)

I may be naive but I don't consider a layer of tire 'protection'. I consider it construction. If you are in the habit of running tires past their useful life, good luck in your riding career.

Are you taking advice from your wife?  She must have just renewed your life insurance policy......  ;D
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

I think not having  to worry about a blowout is worth more than the few extra miles I can get on a tire. I replace mine when they get to the wear bars. Not only are they more easily punctured but your traction is all but gone when you go much past that point.
