Luggage Rack "Appearance Mod" update.
« on: March 22, 2012, 07:47:32 PM »
Some of you had read this thread a little while ago.
http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=6263.0

I'll start by publicly thanking "Snarf" a.k.a. Chris for his fantastic fabrication and powder coating work.  Man, this looks sweet.  THANK YOU CHRIS!!!! :hail:

and Mr. "F-106" a.k.a. Bill for your handy work with the rear Side Marker Lights.  What a great idea.  THANKS BILL!!! :chugbeer:

OK.  So back to the story.  For the rear "Cover Plate" (That's what I'll call it) that closes the back end of the bike between the left and right luggage rack brackets.  I originally fab one up using a piece of paper thin sheet metal.  It was sorta OK, very fragile, bends easily.  Than again, it wasn't meant to be a structral support.  Anyhow, I packed it and a few other pieces up and shipped them off to Snarf for a fresh Gloss Powder Coating job.

When I got the pieces back, Chris had done a total "Refab" of the rear "Cover Plate".  I was like a 6 year old on Christmas morning.  This thing is six times as strong and looks so much better that the orginal it's not even funny.  Here's some pic of his work.

The credit for the rear marker lights go to "F-106's".  He was gracious enough to share his idea and send me the lights...................(Yes, I paid him for them. ;D).  They really do set it off at night!

Last year, I ran the Medium JCW Top Case with LED's under the red wrap around lens as added brake lights.

This year I moved up to the large JCW Top Case.  This time I bought my LED light strips (added brake lights) from Superbrightled.com.  These things will blind you in the day time ;D............................I need to get some pictures of it light up.  So here's the completed look.  I'm really liki'n it.

Thatsa NICE!

I have used those LED lights in several places (aux tail lights and fairing side lights) and I really like them, cheap and easily available at the autoparts store and they seem to last forever.

+1 on the use of the windshield emblem, good thinking!

"Honestly, Officer......I couldn't see him!!!  I was blinded by his brake lights!!!"

Very nice.  You just can't have too much lighting.
