More TPS
« on: March 02, 2012, 08:22:27 AM »
I haven't read anything thing similar to this symptom.

I have had the usual low battery warning on cold mornings but this is different.

I had been riding around for about 40 minutes and stopped to fill my tank. On my way back home the low battery warning for the rear tire started flashing. At first I thought it was low pressure, but noticed it wasn't. After a few minutes it went away. I switched the dispaly to see the tire pressure. It was right on 42psi. No warning after that. The temps were in the mid 70"s all day so I can't blame the temps and it happened long after the tires were warm.

Anyone else experience this?

Yep, mine started to do the exact same thing in the rear tire before I put her away for the winter in December. Before this both the front and rear would give me the usual complaints till they warmed up a bit. Now the front acts like this but the rear doesn't act up till after it's warmed up. I'll be visiting the dealer soon for new sensors. I've already talked to my dealer's tech and he said to let him know when I want to bring the bike in and he'll have the sensors ordered and waiting for me.

Mine (08) went through this phase for about for about 2 months during the winter of 2010-2011 Then they quit giving the warning altogether. NO warnings whatsoever during the last part of last winter or this winter season (2011-2012). It has been a mild winter but I have ridden in sub 40F several times.  My batteries have matured and are no longer subject to premature exclamations.

My rear is now nothing but a "-" so I reckon it is totally dead now?

Yep. That's what mine showed. That's the only way my dealer would replace it.

It happened to me this morning.  I left the bike parked outside for a couple hours this morning in 36 degree weather, and it flashed after I rode off, and turned itself off after about five miles on the freeway.

Bike is a '10.  It did the same thing last winter, too.

I snapped a couple of cell pics when mine was acting up. I told the tech that I had pics, he said that he didn't need to see em.

Eventually the batteries in the TPMS will die.  If still in warranty, they will probably be covered.  As noted, they struggle with the cold and inactivity.  Mine are approaching 5 years, and I did not extend the warranty.  When they go, I'll figure out how to replace the batteries or have it done.  No biggie.

You can contact Rev Ryder on the other site.  He is working on a new case that makes the batteries replaceable.
