Cee Bailey windscreen rattle
« on: February 22, 2012, 10:42:36 AM »
Hello,

There was a thread about this that was lasted posted to in May, 2011, so I was advised to start a new thread.

I have a Cee Bailey Ultra Tour, and I am getting a slight rattle - noticeable when going over railroad tracks, bumps, etc... I took off the screen and the underlying plastic moulding to tighten the mounting bolts.  They did not appear to be loose, although I tightened them a bit more anyway - but it still has a wobble.  I wonder if it is due to the electric shield - and the track it is on.  The Ultra Tour is of course very tall, and heavy, with 1/4 inch plastic - very stout construction, but I wonder if it may be to much weight for the slide mechanism... I have about 3000  miles on the shield.  I was thinking of contacting the dealer, although I am concerned that if there is any problem with the electric slide mechanism, they will say it was caused by an aftermarket accessory, and thus not covered under warranty.

Any info. is appreciated...

Also, the two pushpins on the moulding apparently collapsed when I took them out, so they are now quite loose - simple thing, but is there any way to make them work again, or are they toast?

Just out of curiosity, is this a tinted screen or clear?

The tinted ones tend to rattle more.  It's the extra weight of the tint, I think.

The rivets wear out so you probably should order some more 92039-0048

I have a theory that its not that the tinted ones rattle more, its that we notice it more. I have a tinted Cee as well, and I took it off because it looked like it shook too much. But then I put my Kawi tall back on and it seems to rattle just as much.

Do we know for sure it's the windshield rattling?

I know mine was. Doesn't help that we have seriously crappy roads here in Bankrupt Kalifornia.

Thanks for the replies...

It is the clear shield, and yes, it is the windshield, but as I mentioned, it is not the bolts, but apparently the slid mechanism... I realize it must have some play to be able to move up and down... I think I will install the stock shield and see if it wobbles as much... it is not really that much of a problem, just kind of annoying...I like things tight...it is more noticeable above 120 mph... :)

Also, where do I get the grommets/pins? - are they dealer only?

Thanks,

--John

If you do want to have it looked at, just make sure you install the stocker before you take it in.
I buy my OEM parts from www.mrcycles.com

It is the clear shield, and yes, it is the windshield

In this case, I'd say the Cee Bailey is heavier grade material than some other shields.
